Feb 9, 2015 – In the fight for executive and leadership positions we often see women seated behind the male counterpart, for years this was the standard in technology roles…until now.

According to the North Carolina State of Technology industry report, “many states are making efforts to encourage women to pursue STEM education and careers” said Dede Ramoneda , CIO of First Citizens Bank and a veteran CIO in the energy sector.

Additionally, the percentage of women working in the technology sectors varied from 15% in some markets to 36.5% in North Carolina, which happens to be the top employer of women in the Technology sector.

In Silicon Valley, aggressive new start-ups like Glassbreakers is advocating and pulling strong female technology professionals to the front lines. The goal of Glassbreakers is to connect aspiring women technology professionals with seasoned female business leaders who have been successful in the technology industry.

“Traditional mentorship, established in male-dominated industry, is between very senior and very junior people,” Carey told Newsweek. “But the problem for women in the workforce is that there are many more men-tees than mentors. Also, the tech industry is changing so fast that women even 5 or 10 years older may have very little of practical use to share with younger workers.”

Conperio Technology Solutions, a technology solutions provider, has several women employed in key leadership positions within the organization, including VP Wendy McCormick, a 20 year veteran of the technology industry.
